Hers and hers Engagement/Wedding rings
Katie and Beth - what can I tell you about this lovely couple? Katie met Beth after reading her thoughtful blogs and over the course of lockdown they wrote to each other and began to fall in love, a sharing of words and books and minds.
Our original plan was to make Engagment rings, then wedding rings but they loved the design and feel of these so much, in the end they became an all-in-one solution.
They asked me to make rings which reflected their hearts, we included some of their doodles because I loved the story of how they shared letters and they also sent me lots of pictures of the beautiful landscape they live in up on a hill overlooking the trees, and one of their favourite places - the isle of Skye. We picked peach gold and they each chose sapphire colours and we planned connecting rings, the same but different, different but connected. The trees -Spring and Autumn with their resonance of new beginnings as well as the shoreline came into the design.
Katie and Beth gave me a huge amount of freedom with this lovely commission; they really let me do what I wanted and I think the end result reflects that, I am so pleased with how the rings turned out. I really just followed the thread of the story we were telling and allowed the rings to make themselves. Sometimes the rings surprised me! We have even ended up with a secret Loch Ness monster when you take the rings apart and the patterns which connect become separate and I can definitely say I didn’t plan that!
Beth even gave me my best compliment ever - when she saw the rings this morning she said, “I think the only other time I felt so moved by something is when I saw the Sagrada familia and I love that is so big and these are so small.”
