I often get asked to make secret gifts for people, for special Birthdays and Christmases or just ‘I love you’ presents. I am excellent at keeping secrets and designing for people without the recipient knowing and pretty good at helping you get the right size. Not emerald earrings

This is a lovely story!  My client who wishes to remain anonymous bought some emeralds in a bar in Columbia many years ago and gave them to his wife as a gift.  She had them in a drawer and so for her 50th birthday he asked me to make them into earrings for her.  When I saw the stones I immediately realised they weren’t emeralds, because they don’t have the correct clerking or any of the characteristics of Emeralds such as ‘jardin’ but the fact that they aren’t precious doesn’t matter at all - the gift was still hugely personal...

Pendant for Charlotte

Charlotte bought a necklace online from me and then asked me to make a gift for her Grandmother’s 80th birthday She needed some practical considerations like a large clasp for her Grandmother to be able to do it up, and artistic considerations like a watery feel as her Grandmother lived on a narrow boat for 20 years. Abby and Scarlett stack rings | Gifts | Bespoke

Abby asked me to make a 21st birthday gift for Scarlett so I designed a set of 4 stack rings with each ring representing one of her family members.  We used  an inherited white gold and rose gold ring, plus Abby’s sovereign coin to make up some more 18 carat rose gold for Scarlett.  We also used a palladium ring and some diamonds Abby also had.  Abby picked out a beautiful purple red spinel from my collection to represent Scarlett and then to repress Scarlett’s brother Ethan we chose a grey/blue spinel, also from my collection. Sakura ring for Naomi | Gifts | Bespoke

Naomi saw my Sakura ring in the studio in Cockington and we got chatting about a sapphire version, we picked out some stones for her from my collection but then lockdown (the first one) reared its horrible head and everything went on hold for a bit. Bangles for Karen | Gifts | Bespoke

Adrian asked me to make a pair of beautiful gold bangles for Karen’s special birthday.  I had already made her a beautiful ring which was designed around some of Karen’s beautiful photographs of light sparkling on the sea, so Karen gave me the freedom to design the bangles around that theme.  I loved making these for Karen because I could just work with and respond to the material, sending process photos as we go.  My gold bangles are forged from gold ingots I have made and then I use filing techniques and texture to detail them.
